Announcing Alternative Folk Project Tuesday Strip By Jeannette Balleza, Sat Dec 10th
Tuesday Strip took shape in 2005 as a solo alternative folkproject of artist Kasey Loman, formerly half of Tulsa's acousticduo Dulcinea. Loman's earnest lyrics (''I still live life like anervous little kid / Without the innocence that goes with it.'')and soulful, yet laid-back, delivery combine to give TuesdayStrip's music a very silvery quality that listeners appreciate. Loman began her personal exploration of music and the arts longbefore her days of composing for Tuesday Strip. At 16, hergrandfather bought her a little acoustic guitar. ''I couldn'tleave it alone,'' she admits. ''I started writing immediately.''Her ongoing love affair with creative expression is apparent inher online web comic that she publishes every Tuesday, hertendency to sketch at any given opportunity, her graphic and webdesign portfolio, her living room full of paintings and hergrowing collection of guitars. Not only is she a guitarist andsongwriter, but she plays the dulcimer and sings her own vocalsas well. ''Basically, I can't imagine not playing music,'' says Loman.''It's just something that I have to do. I wanna be out thereplaying and being inspired by others.'' She derives inspirationfrom countless artists, including
favorites such as MelissaFerrick, The Fiery Furnaces, Joni Mitchell, John Spencer, TheDecemberists, Gillian Welch, Devotchka, Sleater-Kinney, Toots,Ben Kweller, Ani Difranco, Neko Case and Edie Brickell amongothers. ''I could go on forever...'' she prefaces, her voicetrailing. She pauses in silence for just a few moments beforecontinuing, ''...Lovers, PJ Harvey, Sufjan Stevens, Beth Orton,Cat Power, Haley Bonar....''
Loman's fondness for multiple genres translates into a boldlyexperimental approach to Tuesday Strip. She is unafraid toexpose her emotions through her songwriting, and her sincerityis truly relatable, often resulting in a very intriguingsound--at once simple and colorful, somber and triumphant.
